A lot of political candidates talk about reforming and fixing government taxation. Tony Mizzell, however, is the only candidate in the City Council District 4 Race who has done it.

Tony Mizzell served on Richland County Council from 1999 – 2006 and served as Chairman of County Council in 2005 and 2006. Upon recognizing that property owners and business owners were being taxed disproportionately because of antiquated state taxation laws, Tony rolled up his sleeves and went to work with the business community and neighborhood associations to pass the one cent Local Option Sales Tax. The result? Hundreds of millions of dollars in property tax relief to residents and small businesses in the City of Columbia and Richland County.

The State newspaper recently published a story referencing that the average home value in District 4 is $281,906. The Local Option Sales Tax credit on that value is roughly $858.97 annually. Since 2005, the average home in District 4 has saved close to $4,300 in tax rebates thanks to the Local Option Sales Tax.

We need the experience, leadership and no nonsense business principles that Tony brings to the table to reform Columbia. Let’s work together and elect Tony Mizzell to Columbia City Council on Tuesday, April 6th.
